A new root password

If you do not know the root password or want to change it, generate a new one in the server panel: Reset the root password → Generate a new root password.

The new password appears in the panel after a few seconds. Copy it straight away and store it somewhere safe (e.g. a password manager). The old password stops working.

A few notes:

• The server must be running, with the QEMU guest agent active in the system (it is in our system images; if you removed it, install the qemu-guest-agent package).
• Only root's password changes. Other users and SSH keys are untouched.
• If you turned off password sign-in over SSH, the new password works in the browser console but not over SSH.

You can also change it yourself on the server with the passwd command.
